Healthy Munchies!!

It’s here!  It’s here!  It’s finally here!!  Football playoff season, that is.  In our house, these are holy months.  Especially when the Cowboys have the number 1 seed.  Say what??? There is truly no greater joy than cheering for the ‘Boys while rooting against all of their NFC East rivals (please universe, let the Giants lose this weekend).  The only downfall to this time of year is the pressure to eat junk food.  Football, nachos, and beer just seem to go together.  I’ve got good news though, I have scoured the internet and found some recipes that your guests won’t even guess are a part of your clean-eating plan. Put these out for the games this weekend and you’ll be a hero without having to feel guilty.

Plantain Chips and Guac

These are my go to for any sporting event.  They are delicious!  They will instantly fill that chips and dip craving without all the added sugar and processed junk.  The only problem is they’ll be gone before you know it and leave you wanting more.

Chicken Bell Pepper Nachos

Like I said, nachos and football just go together.  This recipe is modifiable to fit almost any dietary preference.  It definitely gives you that nacho satisfaction while providing a healthy dose of veggies and lean protein to fill you up with nourishing, real foods.

Vegan Jalapeno Poppers

Say what?  This is not a drill, people!  I have personally made these several times and loved them!  The filling is made from a cashew cheese making them vegan, whole 30 compliant, paleo friendly, and gluten free.  You can alter the toppings to make them your own (my husband wraps his in uncured bacon).

Paleo Sweet Potato Bites with Avocado and Bacon

Can we all just take a moment and thank whoever decided to dig up sweet potatoes and try them for the first time?  Seriously, so good. And they just pair so well with both avocado and bacon.  I could legitimately eat these all day.  If you’re not into bacon, switch it out for grass fed buffalo meat or ground beef and have your own little sliders.  So good.

Spicy Sesame Cauliflower Bites

These bites have a delicious asian flavor to them reminiscent of sticky wings.  They’re vegan and gluten free and can be modified to fit a paleo diet as well.  With these on the table, you won’t miss those deep fried wings you’ve been ordering all season.

The Holistic Health Center of Dallas utilizes Naturopathic Medicine, a distinct system of health care emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health. We utilize a combination of traditional and alternative medicines. The scope of diseases treatable with Naturopathic medicine has no limitations. Common primary care issues such as infections, hormonal imbalances, skin issues, and minor injuries are successfully treated everyday by Naturopathic doctors. Even more important is the prevention of, relief from, and reversal of chronic, serious, degenerating illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, auto-immune diseases, chronic headaches, allergies, and many more.

Dr. Purdy has always been passionate about health. With a background in the gym industry and as a competitive athlete, she has always held fitness in high regard. However, it wasn’t until later in life that she realized there was more to fitness than physical appearance and body composition. After using nutrition to treat health issues in her own life, she became passionate about the idea of using food as medicine. She believes that every patient can find healing faster if they have a healthy foundation.

Dr. Purdy aims to eliminate obstacles to health for her patients by treating the whole body as one unit. She works with many different health concerns including depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, metabolic syndrome, and autoimmune disorders. She spends the majority of her practice helping patients achieve long-lasting weight loss and has a special interest in optimizing performance level in athletes looking for an edge.

In her spare time, Dr. Purdy enjoys traveling, playing soccer, and Olympic weightlifting. She loves to spend Sundays watching football with her husband and rescue puppy, Maleah, while dominating in her fantasy league. She also spends a fair amount of time trying to find new whole food versions of her favorite southern recipes.

HELLO

I love that Dr. P does house calls.  We went through my kitchen and outlined meal plans together to help keep me on track.

Amy J.

Dr. Purdy did wonders for me through her healthiest you program.  I started the journey just to lose weight, but ended up healing many other health issues along the way.  I'm healthier than I was ten years ago and still improving.

Gina G.

Dr. Purdy is so knowledgeable when it comes to combining traditional and alternative medicine.  She helps me know which alternative therapies are safe to try while using my diabetes medication.
